Summary
Before upgrading Windows, verify that all existing applications are compatible and research upgrade issues. This is especially true if you don't have the installation disks because an application came pre-installed or a Trial version was activated.
If installing a new version of Office, uninstall the current version first. If installing Office on a computer for the first time, uninstall any trial version of Office that may have come with the computer and was never activated.
You may see references to the Windows Compatibility Center in the above charts. Unfortunately, Microsoft removed this online tool. Also, the support dates listed above refer to Microsoft's Extended Support. See Difference between Extended Support and Mainstream Support for more information.

Installing new drivers from the Windows Logo’d Product List
If the driver is in the Windows Vista CD-ROM, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.Double-click Add Hardware.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.Follow the instructions on your screen.
TIP We recommend that you let Windows detect the new hardware. Make sure you have connected the hardware or installed its components in your computer before you run the Add Hardware Wizard.
If the driver is available on an online service, follow these steps:
Download the driver to a disk from the online service.
In Windows Explorer, double-click the file you down- loaded to extract it.
Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.Double-click Add Hardware.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.Click Next.
Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), and then click Next.
When you are prompted 'Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?' click No.
Click the hardware type for the driver you are installing, and then click Next.
Click Have Disk.
Enter the location of the driver file.
Follow the instructions on your screen.
